PMP Cross Cutting Skills: The Ultimate Guide

PMBOK Cross Cutting Skills.

First, to remind you of the process group interactions:

The initiating process occurs first, followed by the planning and executing processes which of course who carried out in an iterative fashion.  The monitoring and controlling process also takes place during planning and executing.  Finally the closing process is used.

The above can happen from the start of the project through to the end, or it may take, for each stage or phrase of my particular project.

These are all the key skills that are used throughout the process groups and knowledge areas, and I could make a simple list here, but it will be more helpful if I show you the relevant cost cutting skills for each process domain in turn:

The initiating process group.

This is used whenever you start a new phrase, stage, or project, and the following skills are particularly important:

  • The skills of facilitation
  • Active listening
  • The use of both oral and written communication techniques, and the use of channels
  • The use of stakeholder impact analysis

The planning process group.

This is a fairly long list as there are more process is within the planning group than any other process group:

  • Negotiating

The monitoring and controlling process group

This is where you control project work that takes place and therefore constructing scales that assist you together, analyse, organize and communicate information are particularly appropriate:

The closing process group.

This process group can be used at the end of each process or stage as well as at the end of the project
